Boxing up for your first year of college doesn’t seem that challenging until you’e packing for your first year at college. What will you actually need in that tiny dorm? If you’re afraid of the chaos that is move-in day, here are some tips to make the process easier:
1. Utilize Secondary Storage
It’s okay if you’re not an organized person, this tip is still doable. Having separate sturdy baskets for cleaning supplies, extra toiletries, school supplies, or even shoes, can make your move in experience less messy because everything will already have a place. Simply gather your things in baskets - finding things will be easier in the future, and your room will look cleaner (even if the inside of the baskets are an absolute mess!).
If you are traveling to college by car, organize your things in the places you think they will live in your actual college dorm. Plastic drawers for clothes can be pre-organized, and all you have to do is find a space in your dorm. You can even pre-hang your coats and protect them with a garbage bag, and when you get to school they’re all ready to be put in your closet.
3. Command Strips Are Your Best Friend
Trying to deck out your room with decorations? Most universities don’t allow you to put nails in the wall, so use command strips! They come in all different forms and make the moving in AND out process so easy. Regardless if you’re planning to decorate your room or not- one or two of the coat hanger command strips would definitely come in handy.
